I’ve been craving a good patty to replace my veggie burger patties I used to buy. They tasted great, but when I learned about WFPB (whole food plant-based), I knew I was just eating vegan junk food there. I found a very promising recipe on rabbitandwolves.com and changed it up to fit what I felt would be healthier and used ingredients I already had on hand. They were quick, easy, and delicious; score! If you have time, my Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns with no oil are perfect with these patties. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Smoky Chickpea Patties
2 cans chickpeas, drained and smashed
2 Tbs applesauce
2/3 cup veggie broth
1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
1 cup whole wheat flour
2/3 cup cooked brown rice
1 tsp dried thyme
1 tsp dried sage
1 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
smoked paprika, for sprinkling
Combine all but smoked paprika well.
Using an ice cream scoop, scoop mixture onto parchment-lined baking sheets.
Bake at 400 F for 15 minutes per side for a total of 30 minutes.
Serve on hamburger buns with all your favorite fixings. We like sliced sweet onions, sliced tomatoes, lettuce leaves, pickles and mustard.
