I am lucky enough to be mama to four beautiful, talented, smart, amazing girls! How I love each one of them! More than anything, I want for them to know how great they are, how capable they are, how truly amazing and special they are, and how much their mama loves them! Mother-daughter journals are a great way to do just that!

Back in 2014, I ran across the adorable idea of creating Mama & Me journals here. I immediately fell in love with this idea! What a great way to preserve the interactions and feelings between mothers and daughters. (There is a printable for daughters and one for sons.)

I purchased some cute little notebooks from my local craft store (try your local dollar store, too!), and mod-podged the printables to the fronts. I made one for each of my daughters.

I was so excited to get started with our mother-daughter journals! I immediately wrote a letter to each of my girls and placed the journals on their pillows. When they discovered them, I explained to them that we could write back and forth to each other, ANYTHING we wanted to talk about. They were less than thrilled, and nothing much happened. The journals ended up on a shelf, collecting dust.

A few weeks ago, I came across them in a box of books in our basement. Now that my girls are a little older, they were a bit more excited about them. I have one daughter about to go to high school, one who just turned 13, one who is 10, and my baby is going to be 7 this month!

I don’t expect my 1st grader will care too much about it right now, but my two middle daughters have started writing to me, and I have LOVED writing back to them!

It is so great to be able to have a parent tell you how amazing they think you are, but to have it written down, where you can go back to it over and over throughout your life, is priceless! I hope my girls will often read the letters written between us, and feel again, each time they do, the love and concern and encouragement of their mom, who loves them with all her heart!

The link above is what I used to print off my journal labels, but I have also made one for you here if you want a little bit of a different label. Or you can make your very own!

I have shed many happy tears over the last couple of weeks over the words my daughters have written to me, and I have poured my heart and love into my written words to them. I hope it will always be something they will treasure!

  1. This is a wonderful idea! I have no cbildren of my own yet, but you’ve got me thinking about starting one of these with MY mom! I live abour 1300kms from my family, in a remote area that makes flying difficult and expensive, so this might be a great way for us to keep in touch!

  2. This is a wonderful idea. And imagine years from now when your daughters find them and re-read them, it will be a special kind of time capsule.

  3. This is a beautiful idea! You and your daughters will cherish those shared letters. And you have surely built strong, open lines of communication between you. Well done!

  4. That’s such a great idea! I have two boys who are 7 and 4. I think my 7 year old would actually love this right now. His love language is words of affirmation and he’s always making me pictures telling me how much he loves me. This would be a great way for me to do it back in return and keep them all in one place!
