I am lucky enough to be mama to four beautiful, talented, smart, amazing girls! How I love each one of them! More than anything, I want for them to know how great they are, how capable they are, how truly amazing and special they are, and how much their mama loves them! Mother-daughter journals are a great way to do just that!
Back in 2014, I ran across the adorable idea of creating Mama & Me journals here. I immediately fell in love with this idea! What a great way to preserve the interactions and feelings between mothers and daughters. (There is a printable for daughters and one for sons.)
I purchased some cute little notebooks from my local craft store (try your local dollar store, too!), and mod-podged the printables to the fronts. I made one for each of my daughters.
I was so excited to get started with our mother-daughter journals! I immediately wrote a letter to each of my girls and placed the journals on their pillows. When they discovered them, I explained to them that we could write back and forth to each other, ANYTHING we wanted to talk about. They were less than thrilled, and nothing much happened. The journals ended up on a shelf, collecting dust.
A few weeks ago, I came across them in a box of books in our basement. Now that my girls are a little older, they were a bit more excited about them. I have one daughter about to go to high school, one who just turned 13, one who is 10, and my baby is going to be 7 this month!
I don’t expect my 1st grader will care too much about it right now, but my two middle daughters have started writing to me, and I have LOVED writing back to them!
It is so great to be able to have a parent tell you how amazing they think you are, but to have it written down, where you can go back to it over and over throughout your life, is priceless! I hope my girls will often read the letters written between us, and feel again, each time they do, the love and concern and encouragement of their mom, who loves them with all her heart!
The link above is what I used to print off my journal labels, but I have also made one for you here if you want a little bit of a different label. Or you can make your very own!
I have shed many happy tears over the last couple of weeks over the words my daughters have written to me, and I have poured my heart and love into my written words to them. I hope it will always be something they will treasure!
